Is it seriously the middle of August?!

I’m on the road this week, with my route planning assisted by indiebound.org. I visited River Lights Bookstore in Dubuque for the first time today and, may I say, an excellent selection! I picked up The Strange Case of Origami Yoda by Tom Angleberger and Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld. Also loved the adorable shop cat (named Indie, of course, how cute is that).

What do you guys look for in a bookstore? Cute animals always help, along with great selection, helpful and friendly staff, and comfy furniture. What else should a bookstore offer?
